Arkansas folks speak up.........

A couple of them don't smell especially sweet either and that scares the bejeezus out of me after our last meetup.

OMGosh, what happened?

She just means because our speaker spoke on diseases.

I have the chance to buy a lot of feed from some folks going out of the feed business. I will be buying everything they have chicken related. Some of it is already getting old, but the chickens still eat it. Some of it was just purchased recently. I will be willing to share at my cost to anyone interested in picking some up, especially chops and scratch. I forgot the price list at the shop, but will have it tomorrow. Pickup can be from McGehee to Monticello. I can email or pm prices tomorrow to anyone interested.

Indeed! Some of those diseases were so scary to me!

I've been watching these chicks all night and I think that I might just be overly concerned. I've sniffed them all again and nobody smells like the speaker described. I gathered from him that it would be a sick and stenchy smell and what I smelled was more like poo. I'm not really getting that smell anyore. I've seen no more boogeys. Nobody's sneezing or has watery eyes. BC Marans do have freaky eyes though. In everyone's pictures I've seen, they're almond shaped and they always seem to be cutting them at you. Gosh, I've just never had chicks so laid back! Every other chick I've hatched has had spazzy moments. Not these.

I do have their water bottle on a plate to help cut down on the litter that gets in it. All around the edge plate they had stomped a mush of litter and poo, so I changed plates. Maybe that was on their feet and that's what I was smelling..

Le sigh...I'll post some pics in a day or two and ask again for everyone's reassurance.

Remember that orange bucket that was in my avvy?
I collected about 6.5" of rain in it tonight.
I dumped it out last night, so this is all new

I'm tired of it. Itching to work on my new coop!

I just checked a big rubbermaid I put out yesterday - 7 1/8"!!! The ground is all spongy

We are tired of it too.

I have a sheet of plastic over the chick pen. All the rain gathers in it, so I've had to dump at least 500 gallons of water off it this week! I had to bring the poor chicks in once and let them dry under a lamp. That little white chick that I hatched two weeks ago has nary a feather on him yet. I'm beginning to wonder if he ever will get any.
