Arkansas folks speak up.........

Bluh to the coming ice.

I've already warned the DH that the Seramas will be coming inside. Their little A-Frame coop is topped with tin and that's more than I'm willing to let my little bitties withstand. Everyone else can roost inside their big coop no problems.

Ice Smice. We hauled out the smoker today and got it fired up. I just put 6 racks of baby back ribs in it for dinner tonight. I'm boiling taters right now for tater salad and later I 'll make some baked beans.

Ice Smice, I was without power for 15 days, exactly one year ago due to that ice storm. I don't wanna do it again::::::Stomping my feet:::::

At least we learned something from it. We bought a generator 3 days in last year, so we have one now. Feed bins for critters are FULL (man that sucked to pay for!), food for people, gas cans for generator full, kerosene for back-up heaters (my husband stood in LINE for it this morning), firewood, water troughs for horses FULL to the brim, hay hauled (courtesy of VERY sweet neighbors with a hay spike, since our tractor is foobarred and their's doesn't fit in the chicken house where we store our round bales! I'm tired, but prepared...

We aren't. Was at TSC today and nobody was there to buy Kerosene like they do when they are expecting ice. I have 5gal on hand already and MIL has gas heat just a few blocks away.

This is only like the 15th time they have predicted snow, and we haven't seen more than a flurry yet so.....I guess nobody really expects anything to come of it.
I have a pot of beans cooked, several loaves of bread and plenty of fresh eggs. We'll be fine IF big IF anything happens.

Oh no! You nay-sayers have sealed the bill. We're gonna get it now and bigtime!
I think we'll be somewhere on the edge here in Saline county. It could go either way.
It gives me a good excuse to bring Molly and Rohaus in. I miss them!

another who actually is worried. it's a LOT different in nw arkansas than the rest of the state...our climate zone is 6 up here, unlike most of you guys--we're more like iowa than little rock! (i grew up in central arkansas). where exactly is morrow? we are 15 miles east of fayetteville in a little burg called durham.

Hey , in the feeding and watering section here I found instructions on making fount heaters out of cookie tins with light bulbs built in them , they are easy to make and work really good , even on the plastic waterers. The best part is I bought enough stuff to make several and I built about 10 for less money than 1 cost at the feed store , and you can find everything you need at home depot .

We're 25 miles southwest of Fayetteville. That would be better for weather, if we didn't live on the VERY top of the biggest mountain around here~LOL My chores are done, everyone has extra feed, bedding & water. Food is ready, camp stove (that I HATE) is in the garage. Hmm, I wonder if my DH brought the generator up from the hay barn where he was working on the tractor. It would suck for him if he didn't and had to go get it during the night~LOL I guess I better check

A thing that sucks though from this morning. I use 3 gallon flat back horse buckets for water when it's cold, as it takes them a lot longer to freeze than regular waterers. I found one of my Black Copper Marans pullets (4 1/2 months old) floating in a water bucket this morning

I have never had any problems with them.

My bright spot of the morning was that I got my first turkey egg today!
