Tala! If the TSC has barred rocks, those are sex linked! Get yourself back in there and snatch up all the babies with small white spots on their heads!
I keed I keed.
Glad to see that everyone is getting along in the chick pen and the new babies aren't getting peckinated.
Today for me is geek day. My chicks are due, and last night I think I heard some faint peeping coming from the eggs. They're on their sides though and I haven't witnessed any rocking and rolling. Tomorrow while they hopefully hatch, I'll be out shopping for a wedding cake with my daughter.
Of ALL the days!!!
So I'll pacify myself with waiting for Jim's pics of his newest babehs.
Below is the email I sent to Ideal this morning. Will not post the photos of the dead ones. If you want to see what the Post Office did to lovely chicks and ducklings, email me privately.
Photos of our live birds are below.

Good luck on the resisting part. I went to tsc yesterday and walked out with nothing. I told my wife I was a good boy today!!!!!!!! I might go back today HA
It's a good thing Atwoods is so far away. I'd never last if they were in town!
Someone in Monticello is STUPID!!!
Atwoods was looking here to acquire a building. Crossett won out. We could have had jobs, supplies TAX MONEY!!! No, now we have to drive half an hour to get supplies. Maybe we can still get a TSC store or an Orchlens!

Barred Rocks are not sex linked according to the white spot on their head. They can be used as the hen to make black sex links with the right rooster.
Barred Rock male chicks are usually a little lighter in color than the females but choosing on that basis is iffy. If you want barred rock pullets, choose the darker chicks but it is one of those that telling the difference can be challenging. Be prepared for a few roosters.

oh.
I guess I was thinking that the stripey chickens were all pretty much sex links and the difference was the colors of their legs and combs.
Tala - stay away from TSC.
Oh Jim I'm sorry about your DOA's! I'm glad you got it handled, but it doesn't make it any easier to find dead in the box. That box looks hardly big enough to hold all of those birds! I LOVE those big old goslings in your box! That one is sticking it's head up so high and looking around. I wish I could have some geese!
Jim, sorry that some didn't make it. I'm sure they will replace them, but it's always hard to see the dead ones in the box. I hope the rest thrive for you.
I didn't make it out of Atwoods without chicks, of course.
They just happened to have some little "long legs" Modern Game Bantams that Ethan loves so much. Looks like they are self blue. Three of them came home with me. They had a whole bin full of new chicks with no feed at all, cheeping their heads off. I snuck a feeder in there for them and they just piled on it and crawled inside, too. They had some of the cutest Easter Eggers I have ever seen in there. They were st. run, though, so probably roosters. They also had geese and ducks. So cute!
Here's Tiptoes:
I really wish they had put an Atwoods here. It's a really neat store that carries a lot of things we can't find at the feed store here.
We drove down to the La coast (St Charles area ) a few days ago to fish. Had a really good time. Here is a pic of our fish. PS I love Tiptoes. Sooooo Cute.
