I hope this can help some folks. After a year of trying to get the city to legalize chickens, I went ahead with getting some illegal ones. I was a little worried about my neighbors' reaction, but this week they told me they like my chickens so much that they are going to get some too!

Too bad you guys on here have to battle with the city over chickens.

Here in Rock Hill,SC all you have to do is make the shelter 30' from the main dwelling in the backyard and 30' away from neighbors dwelling.

Ours is 30' exactly. We even have room for goats if we wanted.Our original coop is 90' away.

There is no limit to how many birds you can keep...but on the other hand one dude here got told he couldnt keep 150+ chickens in his little backyard.....
