Had the same problem with my Pekin. He'd pipped, but I guess didn't have enough strength to keep going. Sat around in his egg for almost a day and a half, and he'd made two separate pips. Started to dry out, so I soaked a bunch of papertowels and wrapped beneath the egg to get some more moisture/humidity in there. Ended up having to help him out quite a bit. I only went as far as making a hole big enough for his head to stick out, then he got bored of being in there and finally busted out. As long as there's a pip, it has air, but you definitely want to get that membrane wet, so as to not have it stick to the duckling.

Multiple pips are very normal, and not cause for alarm or help.

Also, wet paper towels can be used AWAY from the egg to boost humidity, but wrapping (or even touching) the egg with a wet paper towel is not advised. It can cause a chill, and as it dries, it actually pulls more moisture out of the egg.

@NettyM how are things going??

X2

Ducklings tend to 'punch around' quite often before starting a zip... and they take a lot more time to hatch than chicks... :D

I think the pointy egg pip is no longer with us and the other egg has been battling its way out ( since its beak pushed out 5 hours ago ) . It shake rattles and rolls and then has a little breather , so all in all it's been over 48 hours since first tentative pip . Does that all sound normal as it pushes and pushes but still no zip ?

48 hours is about time to be thinking of assisting. Can you get a pic?

We made the decision to help him and we gently peeled away where we could see air and he's massive . Here is a pic , should we do more above his head . He is perfectly formed but exhausted
