At a complete loss, odd illness!

if it is Marek's then you will probably see other outbreaks from time to time. Generally here in the UK it seems to be less virulent than some of the strains in the USA, so I would be surprised if you suffer significant losses. Keeping flocks stable and happy is important. Chopping and changing flock members about, adding new birds, moving them etc all increases the risk because stress is usually a trigger.... adolescent cockerels running around chasing the girls, integrating chicks into an adult flock, surge of hormones at point of lay, change of hormones during moult. Obviously some things you can control, others you can't. You may lose young birds suddenly without showing any obvious symptoms or you may have an outbreak of coccidiosis or respiratory disease. These can all be indications that their immune system is compromised by the virus, but in my experience most stay strong and healthy.

Hi all,
Little update, just spoken to my vet and the preliminary report is that it's possible Mareks. There were lesions on the cranial nerve (??!! somthing like that, it wasn't the sciatic nerve) They are running tests and will confirm in a couple of days. :hit:hit:hit:hit:he

:hugs
Ya know, alot more has been learned about mareks in recent times, so don't panic just yet.
@orrpeople has done tons of research on the subject and can maybe throw in some good words here.

:hugs I agree with @WVduckchick wait until you get the final report. There is still no need to panic. There are quite a few people here that have Marek's in their flock and have learned to "manage" it.
@Nambroth is another person to speak with along with @orrpeople

Thank you for the update, please keep us posted.

And, even if it is Marek's, there's no need to panic. You may, or may not, have an outbreak. Outbreaks can be hard, but the virus often goes dormant and you may only ever see it once in a great while. It's a funny thing. But, chin up. It's not the end of the world. :)
Lots of great support here!

I’m currently battling Lice and wondering if this has cause the Mareks (if it is that) to present itself
Thanks everyone for your support x

Stress is a definite factor in outbreaks, for sure! I deal with it mostly at molt and POL. But here's (a few of) my flock, a year after our diagnosis... you'd never know it!
