No. You might be over complicating this situation.
It is natural for chickens to be outside, in living soil, eating rocks, scratching and dust bathing. They will do this as soon as it is available.

They can't gorge on grit if you only provide a limited amount. I choose to sprinkle a pinch on their food every few days. They can't possibly eat too much of it that way.

I always sprinkle a little chick grit on new hatchlings feed a few times within first 2 weeks starting on day 1. Until they know difference between feed and grit then offer appropriately sized grit by itself for life.

Depends on what's in it. Again, this is grit:

Brand is irrelevant. Grit is just hard rock, usually granite. The chick size will suffice for up to around 6-8 weeks old.
