At which age will a Rooster start crowing?

Our ebay mystery chick (welsummer? speckled sussex?) crowed at 11 days old. It was LOUD! He stretched out that neck and made the awfulest loudest SCREEEEEEEEEE! We came running from all ends of the house. I thought he was trapped in the light or something horrible like that.

I get there, and..... puh. They're just standing around like nothing happened. So I waited and sure enough, streeeeetccccccchhhhh out that neck and SCREEEEEEEE! I told my husband that, "I guessed the question of whether or not Fudgie was a roo was now answered."

My Roos are 8 wks old and one of them tried to crow last thurs morning after I had fed them and my back was turned. I watched them for awhile to see which one it was but everyone just went about their bsnss like it never happened.

After that I now carry a small recorder to the coop during feeding times so I can record it to share with my friends at work. They think I am crazy. I think my boy is growing up.

Mine TRIED to crow at 5 to 6 days old & haven't stopped yet. When I first heard the noise I wasn't sure what it was But it was coming from behind me in the brooder. (I posted on here about a strange noise coming from my chicks). It was very scruffy sounding. Then all the sudden I have 2 doing it ! I caught them in the act. Both are light brahma roo over barred rock hen, mixes.Sure enough they are both fiesty little cockerels! So that was definately their first attempt at a crow!

my "aracauna" just started crowing a few days ago. He's about 2 months now

It doesn't sound like a crow exactly... just a cruuuuuucru kind of thing. Hey, at least he's trying

I'm very proud of him. I've decided to name him Gallo, glad I never named him when he was young

We named most of our chicks but, for some reason, we didn't name "her."

(Gallo means rooster in Spanish)

I have a frizzle in the brooder that is starting to crow and a SLW that is outside in the grow out pen (aprox. 14 wks.) that hasn't even attempted to crow.

My RIR rooster started crowing at 16 weeks. My Buff Orpington rooster is nearly 19 weeks old now and still not crowing, but he is mating with the hens, so I am not sure what's going on with that. My Silkie and Ameraucana roosters are 15 weeks old and not crowing either. They're all different I guess. It depends on the breed, too, I've read that Leghorn roosters crow very early. I don't have any though, mine are all hens. I did order some Exchequer Leghorns though and they're coming next week... I got two males (and 8 females) I'm very excited about them.
