Outside of organized religion, what are some things that make people feel spiritual?
I feel like things that make me feel “spiritual” calm me down. I use them to help with my anxiety, depression, and spiraling, and it really helps me. Religion/spirituality may have started as ways to keep people calm and happy, and that’s how I interpret it

Nature is spiritually calming for me, and I agree that getting my hands dirty and crafting really calms me down. I was baptized as a catholic but my family’s not super religious and I decided I didn’t want to be catholic. I celebrate Christmas, but not religiously; it’s more like a family get together and Santa Claus for the younger and of course the presents and food (arguably the best part)

I LOVE food.. ham and mashed potatoes... mmm.. oh and family ;)

Thanks @Silviaschicks for starting it. Hi @chickentrains ! Outside of organized religion, what are some things that make people feel spiritual? I find being in verdant spaces to be extremely calming. Also, observing the effortless perfection that is nature, and my animals. Also, seeing people be honest/vulnerable and self aware makes me feel connected.

Anyone else?

I feel that we're all part of nature. That we're all animals. Each meal we have is stolen from another, be it an Apple or a steak. Humans are as much an animal as a dog or a rat, we're simply evolved differently, which is the only reason we'rein the position we're in and not a different one

I also don't know if I would identify as atheist or any other ist for that matter. I don't pretend to know the grand workings of the universe. But I would literally bet my eternal soul (haha) that monotheism is not "the answer"
This sounds kind of like agnosticism to me. I identify as agnoscopal, a term I made up jokingly but it is pretty serious. Agnostic episcopalian. As for my history with religion.. way too personal to get into in depth. Don't feel comfortable getting into that trauma. For when I feel spiritual, is with my animals. I was once told I see the hands of God through my animals. I am still very much agnostic so I don't know if that's true or not or if I believe it but it's beautiful nonetheless.

Could not agree more. We are no more important than the earthworm or any other animal for that matter IMO. Wed are certainly more destructive than most though! (us, being humankind)

Sup:cool:

Idk, I would say I find the concept of spirituality inherently religious. F.eks, when I hear of finding it in nature, I think of the Druidism.

🤔But my understanding of the term could be wrong, or it could be one of those things that just means something different 'round here.🤷‍♂️
To me oraganized religion is well, organized religion. A defined set of rules that, IF FOLLOWED, offer some sort of benefit. Spirituality however, to me, are the things and moments that make me fell connectged, whether that be to the Earth, other humans and animals, to myself, or to the sun/moon, or a higher energy or whatever. There is no prescribed path to feeling spiritual. No right way to do it, and no end-life guarantees. It just feels good. To me, that is what makes it different from religions.

Where any of you raised religiously, and then decide it wasn't for you?
Raised Christian over here. My siblings too. After a time, the three of us plus my dad stopped going to church. Christianity just wasn't our thing. My mom still practices and goes to church and stuff, but her and my dad have been divorced for a long time. She lives quite some states away lol.
