ATTENTION NEWBIES TO INCUBATING

I am starting my new hatch today.
Hatch #1 was a total failure.

I have a stupid question, more of a thought, but...

Could I set up a nest in my incubator, and just set my eggs in the bedding like what would be in a momma bird's nesting box?

My incubator is now set at 102°. Humidity steady at 43%. I used a make shift turner last hatch, (egg carton).
This hatch, I am laying the eggs on the wire "floor". So far I noticed that they seem to stay pretty upright...

Any thoughts?

I am not familiar with it, but I read the reviews and wasn't impressed. It doesn't say anything about a fan, so I assume it is still air. For 1/3 the money you can get a Farm Innovators, or Little Giant. I do like the fact it plastic and not styrofoam. And the temp and humidity alarms are nice, but wouldn't be worth that much more to me. The customer service sounded horrible. Just my 2 cents.

A bit out of this thread subject (sorry, Tim), but here you go: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/876686/is-this-a-good-incubator

I started a new hatch yesterday too. What would be the purpose of building a nest in an incubator? I wouldn't do that, I don't see any possible benefit to your hatch and it could even be a fire hazard having dry being material in a confined space with a heating element. You can lay you eggs on their side if you want to plenty of people have done it that way, plenty of people use makeshift egg carton turners too it's a personal preference thing really. I don't think either way will effect your hatch as long as you are turning them

I was just concerned about laying them flat. I figured a nest would help them to stand up. But, I actually learned that it wouldn't hurt to lay em.

So...

They are laying.

Thanks.
