August 2016 Hatch-A-Long

I just candled a few of my coturnix eggs at 6 1/2 days. They all looked the same, orange on the side they were laying on and clear/greenish on the other. I am using incubator warehouse's turner for the genesis bator which keeps the eggs on their sides.

1. Is this a normally developing egg?
2. Has the size of this turner's slots caused you any problems with quail eggs rotating and/or not turning sufficiently to promote healthy development?

I would think you specifically need a quail egg turner or they won't turn.

Candled the clears at day 10 and removed each of them. I may have taken a quick peek at the remaining 10, all developing well and dancing around!

BTW, I have the Incuview from Incubator Warehouse incubator. I have been pretty impressed with it so far!

400
10 babies how exciting! I'm right behind you with 9, Good luck!

Im contemplating getting the OEM turner prior to the next hatch, but this one is rated for 70 quail. The incubator warehouse model does turn them but also spins them randomly and it has caused two cracked eggs on this hatch.

Try marking the side where the embryo is and check back randomly to see if it is always in the same spot. That might give you an idea of how well they are turning.

As of this morning I have 10 chicks out and a few more trying. Anyone else got chicks hatching this week?

We are on day 20. It's a broody hatch, so I am going crazy not knowing what is going on. I candled a few on day 10, but she is vicious about defending the nest. I tried to use watermelons to keep her out of the coop for a few minutes, but it was only enough time to see a few. There were 2 bad eggs that she kicked out of the nest.

This is my first broody hatch. I like how I don't have to worry about anything, but I don't like how I have no idea how it is going. I tried to listen for peeping, but couldn't hear anything over her growling.

This hatch hasn't been a good one.

I have 11 chicks out of the incubator. 2 still in but don't think they are going to make it. I still have about 20 eggs that aren't doing anything don't know what went wrong. But the upside is getting 40 eggs next week black sex link so will try again.
