So, looks like none of the 5 Shetland Hen’s blue eggs are fertile.
The 6 Silkie/Ameraucana eggs are doing great. DAY 4.

Ugh still 2 more days till I can candle some!!! I have no idea how people make it to day 5+ with out candling. I have a hard enough time waiting till day 3 before I peek. Lol

I have been known to check on day 2 1/2… Can sometimes see some beginning veins already then in some eggs.

Oh you are a bad influence. Lol. I set them around 1130am. So tomorrow night will be 2.5 days. Hmmmmm

I have been known to check on day 2 1/2… Can sometimes see some beginning veins already then in some eggs.

I only make it to day 3, usually it’s pretty obvious by then. I have no patience

Thanks! I was really hoping to see what the Shetland Hen’s chicks would look like. Her eggs often have meat spots in them, I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
My rooster is very fertile and I have seen him mate her many times.
The eggs were refrigerated for a while but that didn’t stop the other ones from progressing!

Interesting observations, now I’m going to have to go down the Google rabbit hole lol. Do people put much effort into studying chicken fertility? Are they not “important” enough to get studied or can they just get replaced easily and it’s not “worth the effort?”
