August 2022 Hatch-a-long

Pics
I've got 12 duck eggs set to hatch on August 14th! Only on day 4 but I see life in 11 of the 12 already.

OK, yes I know I’m crazy. Let’s just get that established. 🤣

I just sold two of my laying hens as I have too many chickens and not enough time for them currently. One is a Shetland Hen and the other one is Silkie/Ameraucana cross. I spontaneously decided to put some of their eggs that were in the refrigerator in the incubator because I’m very curious what the Shetland Hen’s chicks with a Silkie father would look like. I imagine very similar to a Polkie. Pullets from this cross will also lay green eggs!
Photos of eggs warming up to room temperature, the two hens and my Silkie rooster.

I’ve hatched chicks from the Silkie cross before and there’s a 50-50 chance of them having silkied feathers or smooth feathers.
The dark blue Silkie (75% Silkie) in the last photo is one of her daughters that I sold as a chick.

These eggs were kept under normal refrigeration conditions and not turned so we’ll see what happens!😊
Hatch date will be August 14.

Candled all 22 today. This seller amazes me!!! These are shipped eggs.

Out of 22 on day 3:

3 I see nothing, one has a detached air cell.

3 I couldn't tell. Dark or porous eggs so hard to see in but think there was something in at least 2, but not sure.

And 16 with great veins and babies!!! A few pics of candling

It looks like a double yolker! I've heard some people have success hatching 2 babies from a double-yolker but usually one wins out over the other. I will really enjoy hearing about that egg's progress!

What kind of geese do you have?
I actually hadn’t thought about it being a double yolk, but I’ll do an early candle this weekend.

I’m pretty sure I have three female Pilgrims. The other two are possibly a Pilgrim mix. They all look very similar other than their size. I just hatched them in April, hopefully I’ll at least be able to confirm their sex at sexual maturity.

So the seller of the eggs messaged me today asking if I wanted an extra dozen eggs for $15.... She has some project eggs that are blue. Sending me some lavender Orpington eggs, a project english Orpington eggs that are buff laced split chocolates. I told her she can surprise me and throw in whatever she wants.

So I have 24 eggs coming... My husband is going to kill me. I will just say they were all free. Haahaa

Two shells! Babies tucked under mama hen, cant get a good look yet. 4 more to go. One of the questionable ones hatched!

Trying to decide if I can move her now and let her hatch the rest in her small one or wait until they are all done?! Anyone? I read she will stay on the nest if the babies are there, but I would hate to screw it up
