August Hatch-A-Long

No they're Robust White from Moyers. I L-O-V-E them. They are 10,000,000 times—and maybe more—better than CX. They are like real chickens. Gigantic, but real chickens. They roost with my layers, dig in the mud and cool off, free range ALL over, and are docile with the chicks. They're like 17/18 weeks old, 9+ lbs, and will SPRINT across the entire field when they see you coming. Ive got a really long thread on my raising them in the meat bird forum with lots of photos, I cannot encourage trying them enough. I have linked the major posts in the very first thread, so you can get an idea without having to read through the 50 pages, but there's also a lot of really interesting, helpful discussion.

My Meat Bird Thread - Cornish, Hybrid Crosses, Heritage

These are all from the last day.

I managed to get an egg that should hatch within a few days for my crazy broody hen. It's an Iowa Blue, she actually gave me 3 eggs from under her broody hen but I candled really quick when I got home because one was stinky and there was only one viable egg. So fingers crossed it hatches! It will be a bit more stessful because I don't know what the hatch date is but I can see that the egg is dark with a big chick so I would imagine this is day 17ish. :fl:fl:fl

Best of luck to your girl!!!

How’s the hatch @CluckNDoodle ?

I’ve got two chicks of the broody that are FIGHTING today. Like I can’t even separate them. They both have blood on their combs now just a little. I can’t imagine what’s going on. It’s stressing momma out.

I went ahead and just opened up all the pens hoping that 9 additional chicks distract whatever is going on.

I keep telling the two chicks that I don’t keep meanies, but they’re not listening. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So far so good! She's sitting snug on her little egg so I think she noticed there's an actual baby now. I could be seeing things but her posture seems more committed, lol. :fl

Crazy little chicks! My daughter brought one of the True Blues to me the other day (no idea how she catches them!) because it had a little cut on it's face. I was sure it was from sticking her face where it didn't belong but I've seen quite a lot of disagreement between those three as well so may it's the heat making them nutty, lol.

Its funny how this HAL is still goin on in September :lau

Lol, We just can't let go! Everyone here has been with me through this roller coaster broody experience! It feels like it will never end... I really hope the chick hatches and she accepts it. If it doesn't hatch I'll have to try harder to break her.
