One lone little boy so far. One other external pip, on the wrong side of the egg. Nothing on the other 4 eggs yet but it's still early.

The first one out is always so exciting!! :celebrate That's when my family knows that Mom has "checked out" so to speak and if she's needed, check the chicken room. :lau

Awww poor guy :hit
I know! They were such a cute little family and it was so neat to watch how vigorous the keet was in keeping up with mom, digging and eating constantly! I’ve thought that the brooder keets seem like they have somewhere else they need to be, something else they need to be doing. They aren’t very content just eating and chilling. It was amazing how much constant exercise this little one thrived on! I’ve posted on the guinea forum and another poster said that their moms also abandoned the keets... I’m trying to figure out what the moms need to make brooding work. In the meantime, this poor keet has had such a dramatic change in environment and activity. Even though he had pretty crappy moms, he was pretty content with them. I hope he’s tough enough to take this in stride...

It is crazy the difference a broody makes. My ducklings seemed so much happier with a mom as opposed to in a brooder. I can't wait for another hen to go broody. I might just "forget" to collect eggs lol.
