August Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Not yettttttt. This ones been out since overnight, it’s totally dry and fluffed up. Moms quite a bit hot today, and this one is moving around a lot, so I brought food and some Nutri drench water close for mom. I’m hoping this way the baby learns and mom lets it venture without getting up. It certainly doesn’t need mom for heat right now. I saw her readjust and it looks like one zip under there.

Moms gorging on food and water. Is all I did make her need to get up and poop?

Nope, that's exactly what I do too! She's got this, no worries! Even if she gets up to poop she should go right back. I love the peep!!!

Also she might not be eating as much as it looks like. They make a weird little sound to show the babies where the food is and will break it apart and drop it for the little ones.

Yeah, chick!!! Did you give it B vitamins?
It had a small amount of medicated feed and boiled egg. It wasnt happy that it wasnt with its mama so I took it back out to the coop to be with her. Here it is today out and about with mama. It's hard to see the little thing. So cute.

Before night lock up and I checked on mama. Wet chick outside of the nest. :-/ it was laying and chirping. Seemed to be otherwise healthy but potentially getting a little chilled and she was just staring at it.

I felt like the best choice since it was almost too dark to see was to just stick it back under her. Hoping it just followed the active one out and couldn’t get back and will settle with dark and didn’t need anything. There were at least 4 or 5 hatched chicks under her, all wet, so it looks like most will hatch tonight.

I would have put it back under her as well. They don't get up as readily when chicks are actively hatching so the new little one may have just gotten confused. That's so exciting that there are 5 chicks hatched!! How many eggs were under her again?

There were 9 that could hatch! 11 originally, one exploded, and one is a clear. When I candled yesterday while she was off I saw 6 active babies. :D:D:D:D

Here’s an updated photo from my Aug 1 hatch, the Partridge Brahma with the eye issue. Turns out that she has gotten a little more of her eye visible, so I’m curious if she can see anything at all from there.

She isn’t at all like the Brahma that’s clearly a boy, so I hope she stays a she. :fl

None of the other 19 chicks pick on her so far.
