August Hatch-A-Long

So far Of the 12 eggs I set 10 days ago 4 were duds. One has a saddle cell and tonight I see this. Not being super experienced I will leave them in and keep checking unless someone confirms my feeling that I’m looking at bloodlines. It’s not all the way round in a circle, just one side
I agree with @CluckNDoodle. I would leave it for a couple of days and see to ensure but, yes, they’re likely both quitters. Sometimes depending on when it happened and the position the embryo was forming in, the ring doesn’t go all the way around.

Also, sometimes veins look that thick or almost stuck in a spot that make you question the viability of a healthy egg, but that doesn’t usually happen until day 14 and later.

And this morning i went out to the brooder, and a rat snake had climbed in thru the wiring into the brooder, and ate 6 out of the nine chicks in there.:duc:rant:mad:
Boy did i teach that snake a lesson (with an axe and a machete)!!!
Can’t “like” this - so sorry about the loss of your chicks:hit!!!!

Does anyone here have thoughts on what would come out of a mixed flock of Polish? Buff, Silver Laced, Red, and White Crested Black. Roosters are Silver Laced and Red. I asked in a separate thread but thought I would ask here too.
This breeder is closer to me than the others but she doesn't separate her Polish. She said any of the said colors could hatch but I'm kind of wondering if there wouldn't be muddled colors too?
The breeder I used to work with had Buff Laced, Golden Laced, and Splash and the chicks always hatched true to Buff Laced and Splash coloring I suppose dominant to the Golden Laced.
I'm still learning about plumage genetics and I'm pulling my hair out so any opinions are welcome. Lol

The 3 pips are still just pipped. No new pips that I can see. I’m regretting the upright hatch, but I haven’t given in to opening the incubator to lay them down.

I've heard enough people now say they regret trying to hatch upright that I'm never going to try it myself. Fingers crossed for the little peepers! :fl

Pretty sure you’d have lots of muddled color options in there too. Color is NOT in my wheelhouse yet. Have you tried the genetics color calculator?

Good luck @Rockporters keeping my fingers crossed!

I candled all 25 of those shipped egg's tonight just to be sure that there were no small crack's in them, and all is good with them. I should have some new chick's here on the 25th, if all continues to go well. These are a mix batch of mostly Red Ranger, Dorking, and NN's, with 3 Ayam Cemani thrown in. Thank you @Compost King !

Woke to 4 chicks, and at least 5 pips. I guess patience really is a virtue. Who knew? :lau

So far we hatched an Icelandic, 2 silver Spitzhauben and a gold Spitzhauben. Have pips on a Maran, two cream crested Legbars, and a couple of Isbars. I am already not liking the comb size on what I believe to be the Icelandic!!

My Catdance Silkie egg is doing nothing yet. :hit

Time for coffee!
