August Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Hopping on this train! I put 16 eggs in the bator on the 6th and am expecting the birbies on the 27th. I have 14 cinnamon queen eggs and two Egyptian Fayoumi eggs, with the potential fathers being a bantam mix, an Egyptian Fayoumi and a white Phoenix. Super excited:D

Egytian Fayoumis is a breed I want to tinker around with. They develop so fast that I want to cross them with highly productive breeds and see if i can speed up development in a highly productive chicken.

So we had some losses this summer of the big girls (I think the high corn provides cover for predators). One of whom was Frances.

Background. Back when we were hatching in May, she crushed an egg on day 20, so we took her eggs from her and finished them in the incubator.

In June, she disappeared, and we thought that she was coyote food. But we kept on seeing her every now and again having a snack where we scatter scratch grain.

Well, what do we have here? Two days ago she showed up with four little ones in tow. She showed us who is a good mother.

We'd separated the roos and hens from our May Hatch, so we released the roos into Gen Pop and left their coop open. Frances and her chicklets moved in immediately. She couldn't get them up the ramp last night, so they are in the run. It rained a lot overnight/today, so hopefully they aren't drowning in a puddle right now.
Wow! Amazing broody!!!

Of course my eggs would travel from a few hour west of me to a few hours south of me before coming to my house. :rant

Ugh, id be so mad! Are you nervous for your first ever shipped hatch?

I'm not thrilled about them going to Florida before coming right back to Georgia but I did half expect it to happen because it's the large distribution center that most of our mail goes through before coming here... I was still hoping it wouldn't with a priority package though, oh well! :hmm
And yes, I'm feeling a bit of trepidation over the shipped eggs especially now that they're going through Jacksonville but hopefully they won't treat them too poorly. We'll see! :fl

:thumbsup:caf

Does she have chicks or eggs yet? or are you just waiting to see if shes dedicated?
I tried to put my chicks from last months hatch a long after being broody for two days but it was a no go. She is a first timer.

So she has been on eggs for 4 or 5 days! Barnyard mix from a friend. Some Olive eggers and marans and EE and legbar potentials and mixes from her mixed flock.
