August Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Here is my one and only chick. Was a disastrous hatch, I've got two more eggs due tomorrow, but I am not hopeful. I am moving it into the coop brooder today where my 6 week old chicks are, so at least it has company. They are out of the brooder and with the adults now. Being the sucker for punishment, that I am....I'm going to try again!

Sorry to hear that your hatch didn’t go as planned, though your Singleton is really cute! What happened with your hatch?

We'll see what happens with sticky man. He is literally half the size of the rest of his hatch mates. He's in there peeping up a storm under the heat plate while the others are running around. I brought out an egg yolk for him to try and perk him up. We shall see.

Also.... Getting eggs totally got nixed by hubby. :rant So I just gave my broody some of our eggs. It'll be interesting what comes of it. I have an olive egger roo and gave her eggs from an olive egger, Easter egger, maran cross and silkie hens.
Awwww, cuties!!! Your new hatch sounds like you will get some interesting chicks and cool eggs!:love

I think it was mostly the incubator. Wouldn't keep the temperature stable, so now I'll only use it as a turner. On top of that, the dog managed to pull the plug out on the extension cord during lockdown and it took ages to get it back up. Things happen. I am actually amazed I got one chick to hatch, against all odds, and it is perfectly heathy. So that is a relief. There were also more duds than I thought. I really need to candle them more often. I am now determined to get this right. A new incubator has already been ordered! Praying that this one will actually work. :bow

What kind did you order?
I have tried so many bators it's not funny. My favorite is my cabinet incubator circa 1934.

I had four eggs hatch! Four cuties under mama.

I removed one clear egg this morning and three very late quitters. :( I think another egg exploded at the end. Waaaaaah. Maybe two, cause I’m missing an egg or chick. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Was it okay to take those over 24 hours from when the first hatched? I did not want another explosion.

Wondering if the late quitters were a result of bacteria or if the egg was damaged. The clear egg had a super displaced air cell. I bet they were in my friends car too long driving around doing deliveries.

One day I’d love to do an experiment with infertile eggs, shaking them up to various intensities and then seeing what has happened inside the egg.

Sorry to hear of your incubator woes!!! Just curious: What incubator did you use and which have you ordered?
