August Hatch-A-Long!

I think I am losing one :( Its the one I have the least hope for - the one with the yolk and feet over its head :( It just started gasping and panting. I got it out to see if there was anything I could do. But the major veins have not absorbed and because of its positioning they are on the top instead of bottom :( I offered a little sav-a-chic in an dropper and it took a few sips, then I even offered some egg yolk/water and it took some. It doesn't appear to be absorbing its own yolk much at all :(

Oh no! Sending more positive thoughts your way. Come on little chickie! You can do it!

My little Pip still hasn't started zipping though I can see her moving around through the hole she made. It's about the size of my pinky nail but she seems content to stay inside for the time being...out of curiosity I 'chirped' at the incubator and she answered back! It was so cool!

I have 5 shipped eggs under a broody hen
5 days left till day 21 do you think that they will hatch I want at least 1 or I will be so disappointed
They are buff Orpingtons if that makes a difference

You think? I have two RIR pullets, but didn't get them until 3weeks old so I don't know what the babies look like. The one lightest one is turning almost white today. They are all getting wing feathers that are diff color than their fluff, hmmm.

I'm still voting Orp. Lol don't know why but that's what I keep thinking...maybe Orp x leghorn cross?

I just ordered 3 porcelain & lavender eggs being shipped to me.... I'm a little scared. I hope 1. they arrive safe and well and 2. they are fertile and hatch. We'll see. Never had any shipped so we'll see.

Here is a pic of each of my little struggling chicks.

This one had pipped straight up through the center of the air cell which was massive and saddle shaped. There was no way it would have ever reached the shell to pip externally. So far so good with her, just waiting for her to absorb blood/yolk.

This is my poor little gasper with yolk and a foot on his head who pipped straight out the side. I don't think he's going to make it but I am still holding out some hope. He's gone very quiet now though with just the occasional gasp :(

This one has a wing and foot at the tip of her beak. She seems strong though and I think she will make it once she absorbs everything.

This one is a pretzel... She wiggles her toes at me and chirps a lot so I think she will make it.

OMG so scary looking.

If so many haven't absorbed why do you think that is? Do you think humidity or temperature meant they were a bit behind? Or maybe dark eggs having thicker shells? On a morr positive note I candled my little eggies today at 4 days and out of 17 ive got 15 developing. Excited now ive just gotta try and wait for another 17 days! !

Good luck with your hatch!

Well it is normal for them to pip, absorb and then zip. But mine could only internally pip - except the one whose internal pip went straight out the side through both membranes and shell. So I am having to wait for the time period that they would normally be absorbing prior to zipping. But since they won't be able to zip on their own I will be assisting. I am having a lot of serious malpositions and I don't know why - I would guess the fact that they are shipped with detached and wonky saddle air cells contributed to these.
