August Hatch-A-Long!

I know that now, and I've been working really hard to get those legs in place. I've gotten them as good as I can get them for today. Poo little guy is wore out.

Oh good! :). Many years ago my father had a baby chick with one splayed leg and he refused to fix it. The poor chicks right leg stuck straight out to the side. It had to learn to hop one one leg. It was picked on my the other chicks because of this leg and toes sticking out there attracting their curious nature. It end up dying at about 3-4 weeks old because of being picked on. I just hate to see something like this happen to other chicks.

i tryed all day and night yesterday (giving several hours inbetween each adjustment. and i was having high temps in the 120's and lows in the 80's
near the light was cooking and the far corner was right at cool... we are revamping to two lights and two fans with the egg racks above the lights and fans instead of beside...also will increse my egg total from 20 to 40+. the eggs i have for hatching are home layed so getting new ones if it takes too long isnt rally a problem. just HOPE i can get this done soon so i dont have that problem lol. (my nest box in the coop now has 15 new eggs in if if all else fails. and a short trip down the road can get me another doz of the other breed..
If it was me, i would get the temps right before adding more eggs. That much diff in temps will ruin the batch for sure. My homemade cabinet bater has temps from 98.6 to 100.4. I would still like to narrow that margin a bit more if i can.

Wow, sounds like the temp issue is separate from humidity. Perhaps the fans are not circulating the air sufficiently? Hope you get it worked out soon so you don't waste all those great homegrown eggs! :)

That's awesome to keep that tight of temp range in a homemade bator. :)

I just don't know if I've done it right. I've made sure e's drinking water but he doesn't want to eat.

I have at least one hatched this morning while I was out garage saleing. Hubby Texted me about it and I rushed ho.e! We've been out ever since so hoping we have more chicks when we get back! Today is day 21.

I also read that you should put shipped eggs upright like in an egg carton and not turn them the first couple of days in the incubator. I didn't learn this until after my shipped eggs already started. That may account for so many not developing and poor air pockets on so many in the beginning, I now have 6 out of 18 in lockdown. I sopped turning on day 16 instead of day 18 which was recommended for shipped eggs. I hope they all hatch, but I don't know.

I used to let them rest 12 hrs, and then no turning for first 4 days, but I didnt see a difference.
I had 12 shipped in June, put them right in the bator, 11 of 12 hatched. Had 9 shipped 3 weeks ago, put them right in the bator, 7 went to lockdown and 6 hatched. Had 12 shipped due to hatch today, let them sit 6 hrs, only 1 in lockdown now. SOOOOO I got 13 today and they went right in.....lol
The reason for not turning is to let the air cells re-attach. I have never had any luck getting wonky cells to re-attach. Only thing I have seen make a difference is laying the wonky eggs for hatching. I get a better hatch it seems.
