August Hatch-A-Long!

expect less than 50%...did you let them rest a day or 2?
the creams rested for about 12 hours. I wasnt too worried about them sense they came from near by and the elevations are the same. As for the other 2 kinds, i did let them sit for 1 day for 1 kind and 2 days on the other because they arrived a day apart.

I also read that you should put shipped eggs upright like in an egg carton and not turn them the first couple of days in the incubator. I didn't learn this until after my shipped eggs already started. That may account for so many not developing and poor air pockets on so many in the beginning, I now have 6 out of 18 in lockdown. I sopped turning on day 16 instead of day 18 which was recommended for shipped eggs. I hope they all hatch, but I don't know.

What will you do with all these baby chicks?

Ummmm......how early is too early to hear peeping inside the egg lol? They went on lockdown last night and this morning my saughter said she heard peeping so I was like yeah yeah..... but she's right! I hear it tooo! My temps have been between 99-100 the whole time!

That is not unusual. Pipping internally (when you start hearing peeping) is followed by pipping externally, then resting for 12-24 hours, then zipping, then hatching...all of that can take a day or two so it should put them right on schedule :-)

We have five pips! Here we go! :jumpy

How exciting! Remember that pipping took lots of effort for the little chick. Now that it is getting fresh air through the pip hole, it will need to rest for 12-24 hours before it begins zipping its way around the egg. Be sure your vent holes are open so it gets fresh air.
