also next week setting silver laced and gold laced polish chicken eggs! shh don't tell hubby! lol

are they bantam or large fowl? Been looking for some gold laced Polish bearded bantam eggs or chicks, or even unwanted Roos for my Tolbunt bantam project...

Well it looks like my hens have both abandoned ship on the remaining eggs. I think they're confused. Maybe seeing one of them dedicate herself to raising the chicks registers as "ok I'm done, time to raise chicks". I still hear a small peep in one of the eggs but someone decided to poop on or around it so there's all this dry poo on that egg. I would imagine bacteria is setting into the egg so the odds are stacked high against its survival as it is.

I want to continue my "if it's meant to be it will be" attitude but I feel bad about leaving a chick to die like that. Maybe though she hasn't abandoned all the way. She still slept on the nest last night after being on and on all day.... idk. I'm just gonna leave them alone.

Does anyone actually know why little chicks live right up to hatch time and then die? It seems like an awful amount of chicks die right when they should hatch! It's so sad!

the first 10 days and the last 3 are the most stressful on the embryo...it is sad...hatching is hard

I just candled all my eggs from the smashed package and confirmed that day 10 there was zero development in any of the eggs. So they got tossed. I am on my way though to go pick up some lovely eggs in person - so hopefully they will hatch. It is a surprise mix from here http://www.ebay.com/itm/130970753017?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 (It's The Old Farmhouse) - and I also ordered some Bielefelder eggs from here http://www.rarebreedauctions.com/auction_details.php?auction_id=115400 - I could only afford 6 and they are being shipped - but at least its within the same state. So fingers crossed on those. On to the September thread soon I guess

yes shipped eggs start earlier than the day you set them unless it's winter or something...you can expect them around 2 days early is my experience...."I" would take the dried fluff out...unless you have others pipping and zipping it won't take long enough to hurt!! but that's just me...

I'm wearing marks in the floor checking for a pip and nothing yet :0( I would like at least one to hatch or the kids and I will be devastated they have been checking the I hatch app everyday to see what the chicks look like and they know today is hatch day cause the see the baby chick outta the egg
