August Hatch-A-Long!

I put 8 silkie eggs in the incubator on Saturday late PM so I have a hatch date of August 3rd. This is my first hatch-a-long here. I can't wait to check and see if they are growing. This is my first try at shipped eggs so I am nervous. The kids are already naming them with the provision 'if they hatch.'

I set 36 silkies Sunday evening!

I've got seven remaining lavender orps under a broody due aug 2 and 36 coturnix quail in the bator due aug 3. Might get more eggs to arrive the first week of august so I can do two hatches this month :)

Thanks that would be great. I am afraid if one was scrambled the others may not be on great shape either. I am in Media outside of Philadelphia

Doing my first hatch - guess I can join! I set 24 barnyard mixes (Cuckoo Marans roo over 2 Black Australorps, 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes, and a Rhode Island White hen. Also a Lavender Ameraucana roo with Blue Marans hen) in my new Farm Innovators Pro 4200 incubator on the 14th. I had some issues with getting an accurate temp but have that solved for now. It is hovering between 99 and 100 most of the time. I have both plugs out (as per the dry incubation guidelines on BYC) since it is 65% humidity I am adding no water at all. I don't have high hopes for most of the barnyard mixes since most had been refrigerated for a few days prior. But I have read about refrigerated eggs hatching just fine on BYC so figured I might as well fill the bator up with what I have and see what happens, LOL!

I have 14 Welsummer eggs that should arrive at the post office tomorrow from bwalden (Brian) on BYC. I have called and asked them to hold them and call me so I can get them in person. I will add those and a 3 more barnyard mixes tomorrow. Since I am doing a staggered hatch, I went ahead and bought a little giant still air incubator for cheap to use as a hatcher. I will transfer the first batch of eggs to the hatcher on August 1st! I am most hopeful that the Welsummers and the Ameraucana/Marans crosses hatch. My Am roo (Olivier) is soooo in love with my Marans (Mae West) that he is always dancing for her, rubbing on her and snuggling on her - but I've never actually seen him do the deed, LOL! So they may not be fertile - will have to wait and see!

For my first incubator hatching I am using Trader Joes (and two other stores) fertile eggs. I too have heard they will hatch, so I thought what better to test my new incubator on then some really cheap eggs. Besides it will be cool to see what comes out of this mix of white, brown, tan, spotted, and green eggs! Looks like we are due about the same time, my hatch date is 8/2.

Hi all, I just filled our incubator with a staggered hatch to hatch at our fair. I do not want to do this. I have way to much to do to be bothered by an incubator full of eggs. I have 4 broody hens too. One hen has been setting for 3 weeks but nothing happened. I don't know if she will stay broody for another 3 weeks but if she does she can have some of these chicks. I just hope the broody hens will take all the chicks that I hatch and all the eggs they hatch. I do not want to care for more chicks. I have 2 hens with chicks right now that are almost big enough to go into the coop. :barnie I just feel like I have a big mess with all the broodies .I have a broody Leghorn! What in the world is going on? Anyway, my eggs will be hatching the first weekend in August. This better go as planned and the chicks better be from my Buff Orpington rooster.

We will have a little over a month after the chicks hatch until cold weather hits. Last year we set some eggs under a broody as soon as the fair was over and they had to live through freezing temps at 2 weeks of age and sub 0 temps at 5 weeks. They did just fine but it was a bit much for me.

I hatched TJ eggs last year. They have the biggest combs ever! My second generation TJ's have even bigger combs. Lol. I bought my eggs while on vacation, brought them home in an ice chest, they did fine until the last day when they sweated big time. I thought they were done for but they hatched. Well, some of them hatched. Good Luck with yours.
