I would remove the eggs. I hope you know which eggs are which. I would suggest you put a mark on the hatching eggs, so when you check under wilma any unmarked eggs can be removed. Sometimes broody hens are as hatch crazed as we are and will let the eggs keep piling up.Hi I'm uk and have put 8 buff Sussex eggs under my broody wilma yesterday x never done this before so fingers crossed x one question my other chuck Betty is laying eggs in same nest is it oki for me to take her eggs daily from under broody wilma or should I leave alone and not have eggs for a while x HELP please x lol x
all youd need is a box and you could leave them out during the day if your around. But with 42 chicks youd need a pritty big box or boxsMy Welsummer eggs came! I did my best to candle them and from what I can see they look pristine! My first time candling such dark eggs though so mot sure I am not just seeing variations in the shell thickness at that end of the egg?? LOL! Went ahead and put them in along with 3 more of mine. Bator is full. Now trying to decide what I am going to use for a brooder. I've never had (potentially - I know it isn't likely) 41 chicks at a time. Considering a kiddie pool on the porch with wire on top to keep the pets out. Not sure the sides will be high enough to keep my son out though... With it being so warm this time of year, I am thinking they won't need to be in a brooder for too long. I am also considering ordering some day old chicks so I can get all the chick brooding done at once![]()
I set 9 Silkie eggs tonight that I picked up locally from a breeder nearby. August 7th for the hatch date. Her birds are beauties! Thanks so much jnjmanning for the help.
I candled the other shipped eggs and saw nothing and the air cells were wonky. I opened them and most were scrambled and the rest were unfertilized. Disappointed, but at least I have some good eggs now.
