August Hatch-A-Long!

So due to.my idiocy I cracked one of the eggs today. I was putting in an extra thermometer and it slipped. I was mad, but decided to open it and see what is happening. Today is day 3. I no longer feel bad as the yolk was scrambled. Since this is the first time using shipped eggs and am now hoping the others are okay. They were packed great, but is this goes poorly I will have to find a silkie breeder near me.

Ekk. At least it was a dud egg. Hope the others are growing. You can always go to the Forum of your state and ask if anyone has silkie eggs. I found someone basically down the road from me to get Salmon Faverolles eggs from in a couple of weeks.

Doing my first hatch - guess I can join! I set 24 barnyard mixes (Cuckoo Marans roo over 2 Black Australorps, 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes, and a Rhode Island White hen. Also a Lavender Ameraucana roo with Blue Marans hen) in my new Farm Innovators Pro 4200 incubator on the 14th. I had some issues with getting an accurate temp but have that solved for now. It is hovering between 99 and 100 most of the time. I have both plugs out (as per the dry incubation guidelines on BYC) since it is 65% humidity I am adding no water at all. I don't have high hopes for most of the barnyard mixes since most had been refrigerated for a few days prior. But I have read about refrigerated eggs hatching just fine on BYC so figured I might as well fill the bator up with what I have and see what happens, LOL!

I have 14 Welsummer eggs that should arrive at the post office tomorrow from bwalden (Brian) on BYC. I have called and asked them to hold them and call me so I can get them in person. I will add those and a 3 more barnyard mixes tomorrow. Since I am doing a staggered hatch, I went ahead and bought a little giant still air incubator for cheap to use as a hatcher. I will transfer the first batch of eggs to the hatcher on August 1st! I am most hopeful that the Welsummers and the Ameraucana/Marans crosses hatch. My Am roo (Olivier) is soooo in love with my Marans (Mae West) that he is always dancing for her, rubbing on her and snuggling on her - but I've never actually seen him do the deed, LOL! So they may not be fertile - will have to wait and see!

i dont know yet if i will be hatching in august but will be here to read all the stories so keep going and post those pics and stories
