Hello all!

I thought I'd join the hatch-a-long. I have a batch due Aug 4 or 5. I set 8, but I think only 2 are fertile. I'm giving them 3 or 4 more days before I chuck the duds. I'm using a bantam cochin broody named Phantom. This will be her first hatch :)

That's about the same odds as mine, I set 30 and 6 were alive when I candled them last night.

Silkie people...do you have a problem with other chickrns picking in the silkies because they are so fluffy and frilly looking? Question is for those who keep regular birds with silkies.
I asked a similar question in the Silkie thread recently.................
It seems they do need a few special considerations.
I do not know that others pick on them because they look different.
I think it is more that the Silkies cannot see well to protect themselves
and are a more passive breed putting them at the bottom of the pecking order................

Yo u wont see much until about day 7 so dont disguard any yet
In fact I never candle until day 10 then again day 17 to make sure what to throw out Rather put a non fertile into lockdown than to throw out a viable baby.
you can see loads on day 2 allone i check loads just to see how the embro grows i just trew does 2 out and i was rigth they were not fertile
