Here is my struggling hatchling. It doesn't look any smaller still today :( I just tried again to give her sugar water and got a couple drops in her but she doesn't want it clearly.

When my little breech baby finally came out of her shell, she left that much yoke in there. It had detached already, but not all absorbed. Once she got up and moving I got her to drink some electrolyte water and now that she is about 5 days old she is just fine. If I had the situation you have with that one I would tie it off like a human umbilical cord so she could get up and move around (which I imagine she cannot do while its attached). She may not survive either way, but it just doesn't seem that leaving it hanging on there is going to do any good.

Question: I have set a total if 8 eggs from one of my hens. Different hatches, but same result. They start out fine, but around day 10-12 they start getting what looks to be a blood ring all the way around the egg. Any ideas what could be causing this? Could it be genetic?

Could be genetics, or too old of a hen too. Incubator irregularities could probably effect things too. So sorry about the embryos dying :(

I think paper towel is pretty easy - just pick up and toss.  My question is how to keep the egg mess off the unhatched eggs?  I'm debating about trying the egg carton method so that I might be able to keep other eggs away from each other.

I don't think even the egg cartons will prevent that because the just hatched chicks tend to flail themselves around for a while after hatching so they get 'stuff' on the other eggs regardless, lol.

Well the last egg out of the six did quit. I had a bad feeling because he died after I moved the incubator to a different location and it moved around a little. He usually moved a little but after day 21 I candled it and put it in 100 deg F water to check for movement and there was none :(. but there is 1 more egg that still has 6 more days left and I am going to do all I can not to be gentle with the egg and not move it. Keep an eye out on the temp. I don't think I am going to candle it until after 21 days so I don't disturb it. I do have a hen sitting on a clutch so I hope she doesn't have the same luck.lol

My last chick died. Don't know why. I went to the post office to pick up more eggs of course, stopped by the grocery store and when I got home, the chick was already dead. Fine when I left. Other two are fine.

I cleaned out my bad eggs to make room for the new. I have tossed so many but things are definately getting better.

Hello, my name is Deanna and I'm an Eggaholic. (chickaholic or hatchaholic?) I think we need to decide what to call ourselves, not that there will ever be any meetings because I don't think anyone has any plans of recovery.
