August Hatch-A-Long!

hold old is it...what does the comb look like? by as little as a week a roos comb is growing faster than a girlie! and by 6 weeks it's red if not sooner...they mature faster! and feather quicker!

we have a third of an acre fenced off just for the fowl to free range on...we decided if we couldn't rehome a roo he would just stay with us!

your hatch is going to go just great...the first time especially is very nerve racking but you've come to the right place! that's why we're all on here all the time to support each other in the good and the hard! and during your hatch I promise I'll be on! I'll make sure...and I know a few others will too!!

I tried the "day old wing feather" trick, but it is also the only one without a fair chunk of wing feathers, and it is getting a tiny set of bumps already on the comb, it is about 7-10 days (would have to look at exact hatch date) at most. Cute little bugger though! One of the GL Brahmas we got is just starting to get wattles that are a tiny bit pink at 4 to 5 weeks. Guess it's good we can have roos and several of our neighbors grew up on farms!

I hope so too. Enough sadness already. I have 10 little eggs in the bator due on 21st then I am done! At least until next spring, then we will see. How about everyone else, who still has their bator running and will you be doing more after this batch are done?
I just set my 1st batch of Cochin Bantam eggs Tuesday. I've been so excited, but all of this sadness has brought the excitement down a bit. I will be candling them on day seven and I'm really hoping to see some development.
