August Hatch-A-Long!

Do you have pictures of the Splash Marans x Black Australorp mixes? I just stuck my New Hampshire hen, Alice, in with my SM and his Wyandotte hen. The BAs should be laying around the end of the month. I'm very curious what the babies would look like.

BTW DH has dubbed us all "hatch addicts." I've been showing him pictures here and sharing some chick stories with him.

Cool! Let me know how yours turn out! I don't have any Australorps all I have are common egg layers from a hatchery so who knows what I have.. So allegedly I was sold Araucanas but turns out they're EEs or Ameraucanas - one lays a green to t the other lays a green with faint blue .. i have a leghorn too. My black sex links were sold as barred rocks. Lol worked out though. I'm hatching these 3 from my black sex link. She is super stellar out of the bunch.

Lol I talk about chickens every day. To everyone. Hubby asks me "are you on the crazy chicken people website again?" Lol I'm on here because he doesn't want to talk about chickens so I have to talk to other people who like to talk about chickens

Well today is lock down on my solo egg that I added to the 6 original eggs. I added this egg 5 days later. Since the last of the 6 gave up, this is my only hope. Just saw it move and heard it chirp which gives me hope. I am even more involved and watching it even more because it is the last and no eggs added after it. keeping a close watch on the humidity and temp. I will try not to open period. I added a sponge under the vent hole so maybe I can inject water to it without opening the lid. I think I did that too much on the last one trying to add water.

good luck! I use straws and stick them in the vent holes to get the water to the sponges on the bottom of the bator. Lol this chick that already hatched always is so curious what this neon color thing is & why does it move around? Starts pecking at it of course. Here it is cheering on the other 2. I went into the garage because the humidity is probably about 75% in there and candled them. The pip looks like its too far down but it's actually at the bottom o the air cell so it's doing everything right. The other one has pipped internally. Both very responsive to the taps. I can always count On my super stellar hen to deliver. Surprised she is from a hatchery. I just got so lucky with her <3

Here's the chick cheering on the others "hurry up! I'm lonely here!!"

Quote: instead of the circle on the top that slopes to one side when it gets closer to hatch...it does like a saddle shape with 2 slanted slopes going down each side or an air cell that's in the middle of the side of the egg....anything that's not normal....in my experience those hatches are often assisted and hatch rate is low! so I'm feeling happy about those eggs...and my little pea egg has a nice air cell

I've got 5 PM and Wyandotte eggs waiting to go in the bator as soon as my current hatch is out. I'm so excited to see what they're going to look like. Hopefully the NH will start throwing me some eggs real soon. I know the Buff Orpington rooster has been after her, so we'll see what comes out. :)

Seriously ya'll this one is so irresistibly cute. Must. Keep. Lid. Closed!!!!

Oh my goodness! This is so cute!!
