August Hatch-A-Long!

I think it varies...I have one little bantam that was hatched last week...not a silkie that is just a little bigger than my thumb now...I was just giving sweet a visual...bantams are about half the size of regular give or take....and are always loves....I love all my chicklets but the banties are my favs....love a chicken that loves you back
The silkie I had hatch might be a mix. I have some pure silkies due to hatch on the 21st. I can't wait. I saw some that the lady had that I bought the eggs from. The were so sweet. I have one lover chiken right now. It's a buff orpington. It is the only one that would rather be held than eat.

I was reading the when there is any gelatinous substance left in the shell after the babies hatch it's because they incubated at too high a humidity....just thought I'd pass that on
Thank YOu..every little bit of information helps................

My incubator temp always jumps upto 106during the last few nights before hatching.  If I turn it down a tiny bit it takes a long time to drop, I'm worried it stays too high too long.  It levels out for the most of the day.  Then sometimes in the late afternoon it drops to 96.  Do I leave it 106?  Try to constantly adjust?  The humidity is 65-75%.

Mine does that too! The last few days the temps go crazy!

I've been told to bring it down kinda slow so not to shock the eggs. But maybe don't listen to me. This is my 3rd attempt at incubating and I've had almost no success all year.....

Here are the last 2 that hatched. Couldn't disinfect the brooder so I lined it with paper towels & put more bacitracin on their open bellies. *fingers crossed* they make it. This little one on me is making such a fuss. I could never replace a broody though

And I have my biddy sitters...

This is so doggone cute!! We had a Doberman that would nurse kittens. They're such good dogs!

Oh my goodness!!! I just found a clutch of 16 eggs at my mom's house!!! Heard the hen singing her egg song and went to find her. Once she was done she got right up and went away. I got down and felt that most of the eggs are cool to the touch, except the one she just laid. Is it worth putting them in the bator? There's eggs from three different hens in there. None of them are broody. We see them all throughout the day.
