August Hatch-A-Long!

I am just twiddling my thumbs here.... 7 shipped barred plymouth rocks on day 13, 18 blue bredas on day 5. Planning to not candle my Bredas at all until either day 14 or 16 depending on will power :D I am going to try locking both down early on day 16 as I read to do for shipped eggs. Just can't decide if I should hatch in cartons or laying down... sigh. Maybe I should lay down those with good air cells and leave the wonky ones in the cartons? Or maybe the exact opposite? I have rubbed off on a friend who now has hatching fever too, LOL! She is driving 4 hours round trip to go get us some of these eggs https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/803538/15-rare-chicken-eggs-shipping-included and I am still waiting to hear that my precious Sweet Potato Quechua and Colloncas eggs have shipped. I really want to have a good methodology for shipped eggs before they get here

I was considering that as well for my shipped silkie eggs due on 8/21. I think I will modify an egg carton with much lower sides so I can visually monitor for side pips, just in case I have more breech babes.

I think one of my guys is pipping upside down. What does that mean?

By upside down do you mean it's pipping along the sides or bottom of the egg? If so, you may have a malpositioned chick. Read up on Assisted Hatching (link found in my signature below) so that you are prepared for what may be coming. Keep us updated.

I am so excited its hatching there is one that has quite a small hole and I can just see its beak and its cheeping away

Then there is an other one that is smashed but it is still cheeping and seems happy but the egg has blood on it do you think that's left over blood or do you think that it still needs to absorb it
