August Hatch-A-Long!

I think that I might go ahead and lock my eggs down in the morning. Tomorrow is day 17. My temp has run .1-.2 degrees higher than it should have and everybody inside is moving around great. What does everybody think?

me too because they're shipped and may have started early! but I'm running the humidity a little lower still

Although there were some not so great moments in my first hatch this here makes it worth while .

I did my final candling and marking air cells and had to weed out two more eggs. That leaves 6 going into lockdown tomorrow. The two that I weeded out were full of nasty black junk. I think that's a total of five out of the 15 or 16 I started out with that had the black gunk. They didn't smell when I was in the bator day before yesterday. Crossing my fingers for the remaining 6.

Yes! I'm a hatcher for life now. Although it can be emotionally draining.

Yeah, I admit it is so hard to get a hatch without a chick dying-it is so sad. Yet, it doesn't bother me as much as a chick that is in lock down and dies...

So my hen has been raising the chicks in a bush outside by my house. Now that the chicks are hatching should I move her inside the house with them inside a crate? 1 has officially hatched the others are pipping. They are officially due to hatch tomorrow. The chicks are peeping and that could attract predators. Skunks and feral cats come to my next my house often at night. The feral cats are fine with the grown chickens but I dont know about the chicks. If they came they would come like 5 yards from the nest so... Should I move her inside? I feel bad moving her but I dont want them to get killed. Should I move her?

Yeah, I admit it is so hard to get a hatch without a chick dying-it is so sad. Yet, it doesn't bother me as much as a chick that is in lock down and dies...

My personal worst was having to put down one of my chicks due to spradle leg. And due to my lack of "know better" than to put something slippery under their feet.
