Quote: it's a dark Sussex brahma mix....
funny story...I have a dark brahma, which is my avatar, and a green and blue partridge brahma...roosters
we'll the dark brahma is dominant so most of my home grown babies we assume are his, although we've witnessed goings ons from both, anyway one of my mamas babies is all feathered in and even though mama's coloring is predominant you can, without a doubt tell by the shape of the little roo and the way he walks that is the Colonial's baby!! I'll never part with him!!![]()
I havent been on since yesterday but if this pip isnt 15 hours old at least with out making any progress leave it alone! If you open it or help too soon you may make it bleed to death. We always want to help but its really a last resort when you are sure the chick cant do a thing.more itself Heidigran is right.
I took one out like this 2 days ago after it sat 24 hours almost it had a bad leg.i fixed it. then it was eating but couldnt stand seemed weak.Died during the night so sometimes you help a chick that wont make it anyway Unless they are shrink wrapped they should be strong enough to hatch a % will have problems of some kind then you have a cripple to take care of or cull Neither is fun.
Quote: I'm so sorry rox....hatching is, for sure, bitter sweet!!

I think you might win her over faster by not startling her every time she aproaches you for food. Try this: sit down and offer her food. Allow her to approach and retreat as much as she wants. When she feels comfortable next to you try slowly reaching for her chest not her back as this is threatening. When she will let you touch her YOU retreat before she gets uncomfortable. This way she learns that she doesn't need to run away and that she has to come to you to get petted. It works with horses anyway and they are both prey animals so it's worth a shot!![]()
Thanks right now I am crying I just had my dog break one of my chicks necks it dead now so we only have 4 chicks now mum didn't even preteck it![]()
