August Hatch-A-Long

I'm just praying I didn't kill mine lol. Its my first hatch and I really really hope that with all my trials and errors that it will turn out decently. We shall see!

They shouldn't smell funky unless they're growing bacteria.

My broody is all done hatching her eggs, 6/6! They look to be 2 blues, 2 blacks and 2 splash- what are the odds!?!? Silkie babies are so cute it should be a crime

That little black in the back just cracks me up, it has a huge vault

I've had a black rooster over blue and splash hens for a long time (which means no splash chicks), so these were an awesome surprise! This means either my Sizzle rooster is blue instead of black or my blue cockerel has finally started breeding (I'm secretly hoping for splash Sizzles

). And, my incubator eggs have started rocking, they're due the day after tomorrow. YAY!
They are sooooo adorable!!! I agree silkie babies and silkies in general are such pretty birds

Glad you are not stressing over it... it does seem like once you've got something figured out... something different will pop up!

Three chicks in the brooder doing great and then I lost one in the egg last night... he pipped the wrong end... 5/5 were all malpositioned so I am happy I saved 4! This one last night was just really weak... poor baby. The last one is due in the next couple of days and then I wait for the next batch. I already have another 5 eggs from my hen that I am sure I won't be able to keep out of the bator... just waiting on one more for an even half dozen.

I notice I get a little attached to threads... and don't really want to move on just because the month is changing : ) I guess we can hang out here as long as we want right!?
Yes...because really your original hatch started in august...and it is still august...LOL! Monthly hatch-a-long-threads really never seem to end because we chicken crazy people never seem to stop hatching...LOL

Sorry you lost one of your babies

but having 4/5 malpostioned hatched is excellent!

And isn't it funny how those eggs just keep ending up in the bator????

he he he.. it's true... once you start, it is hard to stop! I got my 6th egg yesterday so in the bator they went! Got another egg today so three days in a row... not bad for a tiny Serama hen!

My last egg of the staggered hatch looks like a late quitter... I am happy with my four and there is one more the broody hatched. She is raising two and I claimed the last 3!! I was just snuggling all of them in my hands they are freaking adorable!

Also, my terminally broody Muscovy has started laying eggs again... in the chicken coop which is good. Last time I started to take the eggs thinking I could keep her from going broody AGAIN, but she started laying them under the shed and then sat on the infertile things for 6 weeks! I mentioned to my son that maybe we should get her a few eggs to hatch and he just shook his head. But really she just needs a couple ducklings and then she'll be happy!

Have you ever put shipped eggs under a broody? If I have any more ducks I want them to be Anconas but I haven't found any around here.

Do you have anything incubating these days??

I am trying my hardest still nothing

It is so hard to wait, I know!! You are on day 21? If they were my eggs I would probably open the lid and stick a flashlight on a couple to check in and see if I had any internal pips yet... If no one has pipped externally it won't hurt anything (though for me personally, opening the bator has not yet stopped my eggs from hatching)... but I am trying to bother eggs less and be patient more...I'll let you know how that goes.

If the bator was a couple degrees low it could be another day or so...

I'm on day 21 too, and nothing is happening with my eggs either. This is the worst part, the waiting at the end. Just be patient, go clean, do yard work, go shopping, whatever it takes to keep you away from the incubator!

You guys .... I have my FIRST PIP!!!!!!!!! I screamed for my fiancé and he thought something bad had happend.

:D :weee :weee :celebrate.

This happend literally as I was raising my humidity. And now its at about 64 but arrow shows it still rising. Is it ok if it goes higher than 65??

Thank you all for being so patient with me!

I would 'assume' that as each baby pips, zips and then hatches out their little bodies will be pumping out the heat and with them being wet then your bator's humidity
should rise accordingly... I am sooooo happy for you !!!!
On day 20 over here........................................................................................................................arghhhh................................................................................
From here to eternity, right?!
Glad all your hard work (and worry) is paying off with fuzzy little dividends!
