August Hatch along?

5 out of the 8 hatched (a day early) and are doing well.

Ah well, I’m not sure I’d count our hatch as a sucesss. We only hatched 8/24. They were shipped eggs from 2 different sources, fertility obviously not great, and we have a lots of deformities from one of the sets - looks like in-breeding to me. So one chick has already died., and we are doing our best with the others.
So far adventures in quail are not going that well....

So time to disinfect the incubators & try again! we picked up more hatching eggs yesterday (collected them this time) so hopefully we can rule out shipping issues.
I’m not sure I can comment on the laying them on their sides thing in the incubator yet, I think we had poor quality stock & very low fertility - maybe due to being shipped & we’ve had an unusually long hot summer.

I couldn't help myself and set the candler on the eggs while the incubation light was off yesterday. So far all are still alive and moving. ^.^
We had another power outage today. Funny how we never had them and now, when I set eggs, we're suffering them. It lasted a little over a hour. Again I was asleep and woke up at once and threw a blanket on the incubator. I wasn't too worried this time but the house got reduculiously hot and I couldn't go back to sleep. living on 2 hours of sleep now. @.@

We are on D20 today, and no signs of life or movement since lockdown. I’m seriously struggling with humidity levels. The incubator instructions say 70-75% (aiming for 72%) during lockdown but anything over 68% results in condensation on the inside of the bator, which I read is very bad. So we are fluctuating between 68-72% for the last 24 hours, trying to keep the condensation to a minimum. On day 18 all 7 left in the bator were moving during candling, and I could see two of the eggs starting to rock and roll. I haven’t candled since lockdown, and all movement has stopped since then I really hope my adjustments to stop the turner a few hours early, and raise the humidity at lockdown haven’t somehow caused problems for all these babies. I’m biting my nails, watching the bator every hour for humidity and condensation levels >.< it’s our first time incubating eggs artificially, so I know there’s a large margin for error (getting to know the bator, shipped eggs, first time experience, etc). If we get at least 2 of the 8 we started with, i’ll be at least as successful as our first time broody mama was last month. I’m so nervous I ruined these babies sometime between candling at D18 and now

I know it's nerve wracking, but try not to worry too much until Day 21 has come and gone. I've had eggs hatch as early as Day 18, and as late as Day 23. Fingers crossed for your eggs!

Mothers were buff orpingtons and father is a white and red easter egger. I put 10 eggs in the incubator on 08-05 and 10 under a hen the same day, the hen ended up accidentally crushing a few of the eggs. I removed the eggs from under her and ended up with 15 eggs in the incubator. I go into lockdown tomorrow and 13 of the 15 eggs had development. The mama that originally was broody is still broody and if she can hold on another 3 days or so she is gonna be thrilled, going to try and use her to brood the little ones.
