Yeah bum is ok just don't use the 'D' word. Yes I've been to the ranelagh sale. It's a bit
'Hit and miss' I think it's on the second Wednesday of the month. I've seen too many sick birds at those types of sales, so I try to stay away. They do sell fertile eggs . You can see the add in tas country , under ' Roberts sales '.

Wow, missed a heap of posts again! :) I'm thinking I need to give up work so I can keep up to date with all the happenings on BYC! lol. Now, how to break that bit of news to Hubby? lol

Sorry to hear you have been unwell Fancy :(

I had a pretty good day at work but it just got so much better when I got home. For three years I have worked at creating my own little tropical paradise with lots of greenery and fish ponds etc and for that three years my dream has been to have frogs move in. I heard one for a few days 6 or so months ago and for the last couple of nights I have gone to bed listening to one near the ponds.

I got home today and went to feed the fish in the middle pond and found this floating on the water .. from a distance it looked liked scrunched up Glad-Wrap:

On closer inspection and some Googling it is Frogs Eggs!!

Further research informs me that the Goldfish may eat the eggs and definitely the tadpoles. One option is to move the eggs to a bucket but I really did not want to mess with them so I was lucky enough for find a pot (holes in the bottom so the water will stay the same height) the right depth and now I have this which allows the eggs to stay in the environment they were laid in and also protect them from the fish:

Fingers crossed, 5 or so days my dream may come true!!

Having organised safety for my future baby frogs (tee hee) I let the girls out for a free range. The Silkie's hatching-mum has been a bit mean of late during the pecking order establishment and I have had 2 x 2 families of two; little ones keeping their distance from the big ones. I wondered if I would ever see them all together! Woo hoo ... they were all together and I finally got a picture of all four of them having fun turning my paved path into a dirt path......

There is still a bit of bossing and pecking but things are looking much better!

And I couldn't help myself .. dirty Silkies!

Hope your little one gets better soon Indy :) And yours as well Kat :)

I had marsh frogs in my pond for years, and for some reason I don't hear them this summer at all :(
They must have all moved to your garden!

There you go, worried about a little stick insect and you want slimey frogs. There's just no telling with some people. Seriously - You may still need to remove them from the pond and it's much easier to do it while eggs. That pot doesn't look big enough and the tadpoles will swim out the bottom depending on where the holes are in it. I know it would be nice to keep them in the pond but you'll need to get rid of the gold fish and get tadpole friendly fish to succeed. You'll also need something for them to climb on to when they start growing legs, shelter and tadpole food. A tub is all you need and if you put it near the pond in the shade it will be just like they're still in the pond. I heard some great frogs in the waterway on my walk to the train this morning. Different ones that I haven't heard before or know what they are. Good luck with them.. BTW chooks love eating frogs.
