400

20 baby quails off to the brooder. :)

LOL not ignorant at all. I have pharoph, white, italian, tuxedo, and tibetian in the japanese quails.
Well I think I can tick definate "quail ignorant" now. I sent a PM re some snake advice.
Re quails: do you have the breeding stock & if so, are they kept seperately to your chooks? Can they coexist with other species? I heard somewhere, years ago that you cannot tame quails even if incubated, they will always be flighty. Is that true? Ok will stop picking your brain. FNQ is pouring rain, I hope you guys are getting some.

Yes i have about 40 quails all up. They are best not to be kept with chickens but are fine in the bottom of avaries for birds or by themselves. Quails are a little flighty but mine are rather tame. They will come up and jump in your lap when you go in to feed them. No rain here. I will be watching the cyclone this week hoping you are safe from it.

Some random chookie photos- Some of the "Show Quality" Araucana.

Young Light Barred Rocks and SLW.

Some of the almost POL Light Sussex- huge birds - they make my Barred Rocks look small!

The final security measures for the new chook palaces - electric wire at fox nose height all round.

Some of the "Recessive White" Rocks.

Some of the nice young Ara hens. Too many choices!

Well guys, sadly my little cockrel didn't make it

.. Learning lots about life and death, I nursed the little guy until he quietly passed in his towel nest.. He was so weak and I knew there was nothing I could do after trying everything for him.

Then I almost packed it all in and turn the incubator off because of the mess the healthy chicks are making of the lawn that their coop is over and the food that they waste, my god! So much wasted crumble! They scratch or push it out with their beaks and then it goes smelly and moldy on the grass and turns into a think mud type thing.. Mum sensed I was clearly upset and feeling defeated so she has kindly offered me a piece of her land

hahaha next weekend we gonna clear out a patch of her garden and convert it into the "nursery" and make it similar to the coop.

Hope everyone had a not so stressful Aus weekend haha
