Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Some random chookie photos- Some of the "Show Quality" Araucana. Young Light Barred Rocks and SLW. Some of the almost POL Light Sussex- huge birds - they make my Barred Rocks look small! The final security measures for the new chook palaces - electric wire at fox nose height all round. Some of the "Recessive White" Rocks. Some of the nice young Ara hens. Too many choices!
Your birds are looking great Ash. Nice pens too :)

We only have straight wire with a sight line Sam. I hate Barbed wire and ring lock is just as bad. Looks like rusty's has put his leg through the wire playing with the horses on the other side. He's bandaged up and hopefully he won't be out too long because she has her qualifier for nationals in less than a month.
One of my angoras is very friendly , but only with me and her pony. I call her wombles, she puts her head in my lap for a face scratch.

I hate it too I was 12 when it happened and begged my parents to pay for better fencing

I am praying rusty makes a fast recovery.

Well guys, sadly my little cockrel didn't make it :( .. Learning lots about life and death, I nursed the little guy until he quietly passed in his towel nest.. He was so weak and I knew there was nothing I could do after trying everything for him.

Then I almost packed it all in and turn the incubator off because of the mess the healthy chicks are making of the lawn that their coop is over and the food that they waste, my god! So much wasted crumble! They scratch or push it out with their beaks and then it goes smelly and moldy on the grass and turns into a think mud type thing.. Mum sensed I was clearly upset and feeling defeated so she has kindly offered me a piece of her land :p  hahaha next weekend we gonna clear out a patch of her garden and convert it into the "nursery" and make it similar to the coop.

Hope everyone had a not so stressful Aus weekend haha :cd

Very sad, but as others say, nothing you could have done.
I had a little chick recently that failed to thrive no matter what I did.
I force fed her every hour, forced her to drink, and I did it for 2 weeks.
She never once took any food or water on her own. At two weeks she was 36 grams, when her siblings were 130 g at same age.
She was a buff Sussex girl.

Sorry for your loss.

I saw how hot you were going to be today fancy. We have a lovely 28c here today.

The wind is so hot. There are 3 fires burning just south of here so the mountains have disappeared in the smoke haze. I went out and hosed the hazelnut trees and most of the chooks are panting away under there. My house is lovely and cool and the girls start college next week, so I've spent the morning ironing school uniforms. The girls have got friends staying over and their all swimming in the river in front of the house. Lucky we don't have any close neighbours cause they've got the boom box going.
