I hope everyone had a relaxing week-end, kids dramas notwithstanding. I have a deadline coming up so asked DH to pick up a bag of chook feed & he came home with a bag of medicated feed for the right age. However, he told me that the guy advised him not to eat the eggs for the first couple of week when they start laying. I had a look at the bag & the coccidis (sp?) medicine used is not registered for use in laying birds! I have no problem using medicated feed. I just think it's a bit much to expect me to not be able to eat that very first $500 egg that I've waited 20+ weeks for, never mind two weeks of eggs. What feed do you guys use for the 8-18 week range & does this sound a bit dodgy to anyone else? It's Barastock pullet grower - complete feed from 8 weeks to POL.
I only feed medicated feed up to 6 weeks. The medicated pullet grower is also not recommended if you are collecting fertile eggs for hatching.
a frizzle pullet
one bantom roo
three australorps
one isabrown/australorp mix
one australian langshan
four isa browns
two silkies
Thanks Fancy - I think I'm just going to take it back it & swop it tomorrow.
A very mixed flock of 30! French wheaton marans, australorps, araucanas, wyandottes, pekins, a frizzle, a plymouth rock, a welsummer, a brown leghorn and some mystery mixes.
The australorps are my favourite girls, they have beautiful big dark eyes. I am hoping to get some faverolles soon as well.
I also have 25 quail, 19 lizards, 4 snakes and 4 turtles. And 4 orphan wallabies I am raising.
It's a bit of a zoo here.![]()

I'm in Perth WA and lost my BPR hen last night after spending months trying to medicate her for vent gleet.
Just wondering if anyone knows a breeder of Plymouth Rocks as we currently have a lonely BPR rooster (they were quite a close pair).
Hey everyone! I'm from NSW Cooma! Near ACT
I like the first one.
