Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Thanks guys. I'm annoyed with myself for letting her go. She was my only pullet from blrw / GLW and this transaction has been going on for over a month. The lady assured me that she had finished the coop and that she would keep them locked up for at least a week. I know that she is upset but after only 2 days her attachment would not be as strong as mine , having raised her for 20 weeks. The ironic thing is that I visited both of the other new owners of my babies just yesterday. Now this lady wants to know if I will sell her another to keep her surviving hen company.

Maybe you can visit to ensure the place is ok first before selling another?

I'll think on it a little longer. I'm probably being a little unreasonable but I put a lot in to it. She has her eye on my lovely blue laced red hen and that's not happening. Ben and and a local friend are the only people I've even sold eggs to and I sold a pullet to@karenwhitfield. Where is Karen? Haven't heard from her in a while. Hope all is well.

.

It's very disappointing when you sell birds out ,explain in detail how to look after them , only to find that they were killed by a dog 2 days later. Rip dotte.

RIP Dotte.
Such a shame Fancy.

I thought that was the case.... I just don't like them being caged up all the time! There is only 4 of them in a decent sized aviary, and I change their surroundings weekly by changing the mulch on the floor of their home between wood shavings, grass clippings, bamboo leaf mulch, pot plants, etc.... But I just wondered if they stuck around like chickens... I thought they didn't.... Thank you!
I used to try to breed quail before I was diagnosed as a diabetic. Loved them
Wrapped in bacon.
Stuffed with duck fat, cheese cracked pepper, mixed herbs and any fruit you have on hand
Bake 20 -40 minutes in a wood fired oven or a camp oven over coals in loads of butter.
I wonder why I am a diabetic.

Had a book with 2 great quotes:-
  1. “There are a 1000 ways to lose quail.”: I found 999 of them
  2. “You have hatched quail, now your problem begin

Lent that book and never saw it again.

I just thought I would post a pic of my ladies!

This is an aviary of ours that we converted into a pen for the ladies when we're not home to let them free range. It's 6m x 3m, with a 1m x 3m section enclosed for them to sleep and nest in.

We have Dorothy, our GLW in the back, Florence, our white Polish, Barbara, our Barnevelder and Nancy, our New Hampshire (Palomino??). There is also a friends New Hampshire, Hazel :)

I thought I had more pics of the ladies on my phone!
Obviously not!
Should get the proper camera out one weekend :)

Lovely set up and girls :)

More marans hatching yesterday and today. These will be off to new homes in a few weeks. My pekin is not looking much better, no worse either so far so I will keep the antibiotics and drops up to her and keep my fingers crossed. Poor phoenix has survived being attacked and now this she is a tough little girl to still be hanging on.
