Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

:th Wow, can't believe I didn't get that one.
Have you seen ALL the colours of Wyandottes??? If not you are going to go chicken crazy when you do, there are Golds, Red laced Blues, Blues, Blacks, Golden Reds, Golden Blues etc etc. Just so many. @Fancychooklady
has the website of a guy who breed almost all the colours.

They are very pretty. I have always wanted to breed NH's. They are like the 'classic' chicken, but I have never been able to find any.

Does anyone ever trim the puff on top off their hens heads? I have an EE with quite a large puff on the top and it seems to quite badly impair her vision. She bumps into things all the time including the othe chooks and it gets them quite cranky! Can I trim it?

I have been known to trim a silkies crest back for the same reason. I feel it puts them at an unfair disadvantage , not being able to see. Best to trim just a little away from the eyes, knowing that next molt you will have to do it again. I'm assuming that you have no intention of showing.

I have seen a few of the other wyandotte colours and I could easily see myself trying to get all of them.. Kinda like pokemon....

I'd love to get out and see some nice chicken set ups. We definitely need to move to more land, but unfortunately cannot afford to! Will have to deal with suburbia for a bit longer :D I'm still only a spring chicken I guess. We do have bushland across from us and have the occasional bird of prey hanging around which scares me a little!!

Gosh it's been a long time since I had not many chickens. I had 1 bantam and 4 Muscovy ducks when i lived in the city.. Moved out here and had them still and started with 9 give away hens...and its all been down hill since then

. I refuse to count anymore... My excuse is they move to quick to count

We just don't have enough room for too many! But I am sure I could keep 10 without too much hassle...
Someone a few doors down has a rooster, and I can only assume that if no one has complained about that in the 3 years we've lived there, then no one should complain about my girls!! ;)

I trim our polish so she can see, all that fuzz gets in the way!

She is due another haircut at the moment. I can see that she is starting to have a bit of trouble again, she comes very close to running into things!!

Well if you can fit 10 your doing great. My neighbours in the city had roosters you would hear them for a bit then silence again til the next lot arrived.

No

No certainly won't be showing! One haircut coming right up :)

We found two eggs today so there are two pullets laying at 20 weeks! The one on the left is the first one, the pale one was found this morning & I think our Leghorn cross laid it and after watching Steve try out two nest boxes & decide on the small dog box, I collected the third & largest egg (44g) while it was still warm. I couldn't resist posting a pic of ALL of the eggs.

It strikes me that our chickens have us very well trained. We feed them , pick up their poop , care for them when they are sick and worry about them when they are out. All they have to do is do what comes naturally , lay an egg and we are eternally grateful. I do all of the above for my teenagers yet no egg!
