Perhaps one day I will aspire to have a basket of eggs as colourful as TheChookPatch, but for now I'm just thrilled with one small pinkish egg.
Good luck with your Belgiums Satay!

We actually found the egg after visiting the Lawnton poultry show. It clearly wasn't for the general public. There were no labels on the cages and heaps of breeds I wasn't sure of so I didn't learn much. There were some birds that could have been Austrolorps on steroids. Seriously, are their roosts reinforced with steel beams! Although I can't imagine how they would even get onto a roosting perch. Is breeding enormous birds a show thing or is there some category I'm unaware of, like bantams, normal chooks and giants?

Funny you should say that, Opal (my croad who is gigantic) just broke her roost yesterday. Lucky she is OK

I feel like I shouldn't laugh, but it is funny. Thank goodness she didn't get hurt. One steel beam coming up! I'd love to see a pic because I can't imagine having a chicken that large in my backyard. Is croad a large breed or is she just a big girl? Perhaps mine are underfed. I certainly wouldn't want to get between one of those hungry chooks and a tasty snack!
