Good luck hatching Satay

I have a very moody broody. She has been sitting on 6 fertile eggs and today is day 21.

How will i know if the chicks have hatched?? Do i need to remove egg shells??

I'd like to move them to a smaller pen just for mum and chicks.

Will i be able to hear them peeping straight away??

What if they don't hatch?? Will she coninue to sit on them or will it break her broody.

She is very crazy and doesn't like us near her but i don't know when i should pick her up and see of they have hatched. What is the max amount of days i should leave eggs there for??

I'd like to move them to a smaller pen just for mum and chicks. Do not rush them, let them do their thing in their time. This is one of the mistakes that newbees do, try not to look etc.

Will i be able to hear them peeping straight away?? Not necessary

She is very crazy and doesn't like us near her but i don't know when i should pick her up and see of they have hatched. What is the max amount of days i should leave eggs there for?? Some of my eggs take 23 days, it has been cold and eggs can take longer when it is cold
She does look like a big bird, these can crush their eggs and chicks but just let it go.
Let me know how you go.

You should be able to hear the peeping of chicks when they hatch. I would just leave her be she will either get up when all that are going to hatch do or she will eventually give up if none hatch.

I agree with satay. Just leave her be because some of the bigger birds ' muscle down ' on the eggs and crush them , in an attempt to protect them. 21 days is only a guideline but once they do start hatching it can take 48 hours from woe to go. Be sure you have a shallow water dish and some crumble for those that do hatch.

I agree, just leave her be.
When I hatched with broodies, I could hear them peeping away under the hens. I left them in the nest boxes for 3 days after the first hatch to make sure any late bloomers had a chance to hatch.

Good luck, it's all very exciting hatching!

Wow- i am so happy. Went out this morning and heard some peeping.
Tonight we bought them inside as the coop is not chick friendly in anyway.

I have 6 adorable little babies

Congrats, but unless you want some splayed legs you had better get them out of that slippery white container. :)
