Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

We bought the mum and chicks inside but had the chicks out to take a photo.
They are back and snuggled with mum in their new mummy and chic house just for them for the next week or so while i sort out the main coop amd the other chickens I have. The coop isn't quite chick friendly and the hen does not like my broody doesn't seem to like the others.

Is it ok for her to keep eating the chic starter feed?? Also

She loves lettuce but are the chicks allowed to start eatin that stuff yet??

We gave our chicks veggies, oatmeal and cottage cheese in the first days already along with their feed. They seemed to be fine. Minced meat was tasty too, but if you give them solids they need to have access to grit.

Mommy should be okay on the chick starter, but might want some crushed up eggshells or oyster shells for some added calcium. If the feed is medicated someone else should probably have a stab at this, I don't know how that would effect older chickens.

The medicated feed is fine while she isn't laying. My little ones get a boiled egg every other day . I push it through the the top of the aviary wire and they catch it before it touches the ground.
I also bring mine in on day 1 to get pics.

Hi from Perth too.

Welcome Vehve....you found our lair!

I don't mind a laugh with Hamish and Andy, I would rather watch that than some of the 'a current affairs' type shows. At least it's easy to pick whats real.
