Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I prefer Felix. Every time I think of your name I hear the jingle, ' Felix the cat the wonderful wonderful cat, whenever he gets in a fix................'
That's a lot better than what most people here in Finland start thinking of. Here, Felix is a huge producer of canned goods and condiments. Felix Ketchup was what quite a few kids called me growing up. I'm a Heinz man myself.

Hi all! Long time no see :)

Spring is in the air so of course chicks is on my mind :)

So after though opinions on safest way to add to my flock. The two options I'm considering are buying sexed day old chicks and sneaking under a broody hen. This though means I'd have to go hatchery though so I'm not buying something that been with other birds? Couldn't do the whole quarentine thing again.
So would end up with regular australorpe

Or buy eggs and hatch myself but then there is the dreaded rooster possibility again and not sure I want to deal with that again either. But then I could get a gorgeous blue australorpe which is what I really want.

My priority though is my existing birds so what would be the safest way to increase our flock?

:frow I would go with the egg option. While it would be a pain to get roosters it is a far safer option. I have done both but if I ever get day olds they go in a brooder. Even with sexed day olds there is no 100% guarantee usually unless you are buying a breed like welsummer that can be sexed as a day old.

I haven't got a brooder so was going to wait for our super friendly hen to go broody then use her. Thought it would avoid the whole adding teens to the flock later thing. Never hatched before though so this is all guessing it will work.

I'm sure you'll do great which ever way you decide to go :)

Thanks :)

Just have to wait for a Broodie now and find a supplier for the eggs.

Top of my want list is some blue australorps but hubby would like some Sussex. Want to find a quality stock breeder, might only be for the backyard but if we are going to have to have a breed might as well have it how it's meant to look :)

And off topic. Did I miss something? What's with the BYC friend bit under my name? Not sure when that turned up lol
