Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Unfortunately everyone has stories of chicken woes. Goes with the ownership of fluffy butts !

Rats will operate during the day too and would your cat get the eggs? Crows are really smart too.

Don't we all. I am sure between the lot of us we could write a book or two about it.

Well spotted!
The bottles are a heat sink in case of emergency.
The black  ceramic bulb is also a back up on a thermostat in case the main bulb blows.

I learnt well from Ash about back up bottles. I use them too now. Last hatch it was so hot here the heat lamp only came on for a few hours at night and not at all during the day for the 3 weeks they were in the brooder. First for me.

My they are gorgeous Ash!

:welcome  Frizzylizzy.  Good to have you on board.  You most certainly can get Wyandottes in Tasmania.  @Fancychooklady
has them and she lives in Tassie :D
What breeds do you have now?  Do you want them more as pets or as egg layers?  I have a mixed bag for my flock - I have Araucanas, Faverolles, Welsummers, Sussex, Dorking, Black Sex Links, Opringtons, Plymouth Rock bantams and a Naked Neck frizzle bantam.

x2 and hers are stunning.:)

At least I'm not the only one with chicken woes. If a crow got in I doubt it would ever get out. Or navigate once in there. See what the next few days bring I guess.

Don't give up Aussie, if at first you don't succeed try try again . I'll keep my fingers crossed for the other eggs for you. :fl

Me too and darn goannas and foxes as well,. Do you loose many eggs to snakes down there Fancy? .

No . Crows , rats and one sneaky ridgeback are the main offenders here. I've only seen 4 snakes since we've been here, one swimming across the inlet, one on the lawn and 2 x flying overhead. ( in the talons of a sea eagle ).

Me either. I have seen young red belly a few times lately but it's no where near the coups. Goannas and crows are our main offenders and Thor if he finds an egg before me.

The cat doesn't like egg. Ive tried feeding him some and he turns his nose up at it.

any pigeons that get in the coop get stuck in the netting I have so if a crow got in I would suspect the same. I'll just keep feeding her scrambled eggs every 2 days to make sure its not her eating them.

Satay, not really, sorry. We got some snow a week and a half ago, but it's been too warm to stick. Snowed again a bit this weekend, but that melted too. Now it's below zero, but no snow to go with the temperatures yet.

I did snap a few shots on our walk in the weekend.

And here's one from a bit over a week ago.
