Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

The ' blood spot ' or ' meat spot ' in the top pic just indicates mild stress or trauma when the egg was being formed, this happens in infertile eggs too. The bottom eggs look fertile, a white ' bullseye ' is what you are looking for.

Thanks fancychook. Didnt even know about the meat spot being caused by stress as that was the first time I have evwr seen this.. So my two little roos are already covering wow!! Only 17 weeks, no crowing but covering that is pretty good.

I'll be at more till 330 pm so won't be tempted to interfere!

Fancy, I m glad to hear he is ok at the moment. I'm sure he is in good hands even without a vet to assist I'd love you to keep us posted on his progress.

Hey Teila. Good to see you back, my lorp sings like that all the time and I thought it was her bossiness saying look at me not the vulnerable one laying the egg over there and doing the rooster protect the flock role!

Could you be misreading her intentions? Just a thought?!

Felix Love the pics and history ! How are the girls holding up to the winter?

Aussie maybe get hire borrow incubator and hatch give the girl some dummy eggs and put new borns under her at night ?

at your chicken with the cat’s bone; great pic!

Woo hooo satay congrats!

Thanks Sam. You know, I never thought of it that way; maybe I have misjudged Cilla. She does not do it with Dusty and LuLu but then, in Cilla’s eyes, Blondie is the bottom on the pecking order, so maybe she does see her as vulnerable.

This morning I got to sleep in until 05:30am! Cilla did not start the day with a Blondie-Bash, instead her 2IC Dusty did it for her! I have no idea why because Dusty gets along with Blondie just fine.

A section of the run is uncovered and they only get to use that if we are home; if we are not home, covered run only. Anyways, I heard them calling out yesterday and when I went out to see what was wrong, Blondie had broken out of the uncovered run and the flightless Dusty and LuLu had dobbed her in!

I love all their little chickenalities and as you all know, nothing better than sitting in the garden watching chicken TV. Sometimes I would just love to know what is going through their little chicken brains.

Why is that one nest box so special?
Why is the patch of dirt she is dust bathing in any different to the patch right next to her?
Why, when they have caught a bug, do they tell the rest of the flock and then have to run away to keep it? Wouldn’t you just shut up and eat it?
