Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Frizzylizzy2003 I will leave the answering of your question to the expert(s) but did just want to say, I bet the number is substantial in comparison to forever broody Pekins! Lol

K Spot wooo hoo! I am excited for you. I hope you all realise that I am now relying on you for my chick fix?!

Howdy Steampunked and welcome. Looking forward to hearing about your flock.

Yep K Spot I sure am!

After the past few months of upheaval and losses I have sworn off hatches until I have forgotten about the drama. Ergo, I am taking on the role of enabler and experiencing hatches vicariously ... bring it on! lol

What breeds of chickens do you have?

Remembering is a bit hard...

The easy ones are that I'm looking after three 5-6 week olds for a friend, they are an Australorp-Isa Brown cross and two Isa Browns.

Mine are eight 4-5 weeks that I hatched myself and four 5-6 week olds that my partner purchased because he went to a farm and got seduced by the cuteness.

My home-hatched are:
Four silkies - one white, one grey, two golden. The runt golden is called 'Candy Corn'.
Two Anconas, unnamed because I don't know who will be a rooster!
Two Silver Laced Wyandottes, one roo, one girl called 'Sally Shock'.

My partner's 'But they are so cute!' are:
Two barred rocks, unnamed.
Two light sussex, also unnamed!

Once we know which rooster we are keeping and who stays and who goes, everyone will be named - only the ones I'm certain of have names now. Frankly, Candy Corn could be a rooster, but she's a silkie runt, so I'm guessing girl just from the teeny tiny body.

Yes you certainly have had more than your fair share of drama! I guess I have too, but call me a fool for wanting to go back for more! I can't resist those teeny little fuzzies.
I will definitely post up plenty of pics for your benefit Teila.

Oh very cool! You have quite a mixed bag, just like me! Also sounds like you are just as bad at chicken maths as the rest of us too

Steampunked love the “but they are too cute!” … K Spot is right; chicken math strikes again!

Dear Santa
If it is not too much trouble, can you please drop a miniature one of these in my Christmas Stocking this year

Isn't she beautiful? She belongs to a friend of mine in Italy who I have told is very lucky that she does not live close because I would chicken-nap her!

I want one!!!! lol

Oh man, this broody Isa is doing my head in! What if I went and bought a couple of chicks to pop under her? I've been picking her up and putting her out twice a day, so at least she remembers to get something to eat and drink, but it's quite stressful for her as the other two immediately run at her and peck her head. She's managed to pluck most of her chest feathers...she's serious about this, so maybe chicks are the best remedy? If I did that. would I have to separate them from the other two, or could they co-exist as they have so far? I'm not sure about what sort of mother she'd be, but her persistence is sweet...
