Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I have a dryer that I haven't used in years prob since the floods but I keep it incase I need it as the nearest laundry mat is 35km away.

I would definitely keep it then. Although I imagine the advantage of being out in the sticks is privacy on the number of chooks you have. I've been checking out the restrictions on larger properties since our bush went and it's crazy. Moreton Bay - Properties of 6,001m2 or greater, up to 20,000m2 - ONE rooster with permission from the council! Properties bigger than that can only have ONE rooster.

I'm guessing its all about whether your neighbours complain or not.

We don't have restrictions on numbers out here but the same if someone was to complain about noise that would be a different story. Our neighbours pretty much all have chickens, some have horses and i have sheep no one seems to mind except a guy up the road whinges to everyone how noisy the roosters are in this area. He chooses to live in a shed which is not allowed out here so he really can't complain to council..
My rooster count is . 5 marans roosters, 2 belgian duccle roosters, 2 pekin roostes, 2 frizzle pekin roosters,1 rir rooster 1 araucana rooster and 1 cross bred.

Its really strange with restrictions my council says no. But where I've been buying fertilized eggs or chicks all have roosters (obviously) but they are in suburbs. 1 lived in a block of flats lol dunno how they allow it

Using the power of positive thinking, I made sure I got to spend the day with my gals, regardless of the weather. I mucked about doing stuff between downpours and when it was raining, me and the gals hid under the gazebo. They liked that bit; meal worms!

Cilla and the Nuggets did not have to be locked in the nest as the rain was not heavy and consistent enough to cause flooding; they just sheltered under the coop during the worse bits.

As I type we have another severe thunderstorm going over but luckily the girls either sensed it or thought they might as well go to bed seen as I ended free range early. Cilla took the Nuggets to bed at 04:30!

Anyways, they are dry, safe and sound for this next one! The washing, however, not so dry and now on a clothes hoist in the lounge room. Anyone else not able to leave washing on the line overnight because of bat poop?

satay that IS a LOT of roosters!

Now you see them:

Now you don’t!:

@Fancychooklady well done on the championships! Great pic!! And YAY on the new chicks.

Wow i have no idea but i imagine id be able to have at least 1 rooster here lol.

Ok so i knew that thered be fighting and i shouldnt intervene this morning thats cool but when the new girls were flattening themselves in the corners or shaking in fear and then running behind me to protect them it was just heart breaking not to help them! They kept looking at me like why.. please help me mummy.. :-(

Luckily it only seems to be my RIR roosters really picking on them. Rodney and hector are happy to share their mating services and let them join the flock otherwise. The 2 RIRs wont let them get off the ground when they go outside with them tho. But my Rodney as ive always said is my perfect specimen of a rooster, such a brilliant protector of his flock, he has stood guard most of the day by the coop keeping the reds away and when hes off finding food for his other girls hector tackles the reds whenever they attempt picking on the girls.

So I have finally come to the decision today that Im getting rid of my RIR roosters.. :-( theyve never been a problem before but not i think theres too many rooster for my poor new girls. Im sure once theyre gone my flock will get along nicely and the new girls will feel comfortable forraging with the others.

Ive even got a guarantee they wont end up in a stew! :) so im moving them tonight

I have 17 Roos and counting. When we were away I woke up to the sound of roosters crowing and a pacer doing its morning track work along side the truck. I felt right at home.

Aww thats good. Would feel so quiet and lonely without the crowing with that many!

So got rid of my beautiful RIR roosters tonight, many interested breeders but only 2 roosters so only 2 got them. At least i know they def wont be used for food!

Turns out (gave one back to the lady i originally bought them all off) my absolutely gorgeous Rodney that i got as a 'light sussex' when he was 1 wk isnt actually a sussex at all! Most of u can probably see that haha but i just figured he was an exceptionally beautiful special boy. Hes a RIW! I never even knew the breed existed.. new fav! Haha

Well sweet dreams everyone, see how my flock go in the morning when they realise their numbers have changed again! Hopefully a much better day for my newbies :)
